Hi, I’m Madeline

But since you've made it to the about page, you can call me Maddy.

My story starts as a kid growing up in Portland, OR where I spent my days obsessed with making art—drawing, painting, ceramics, I did it all! Fast-forward to my college years where I studied Art History at the University of San Francisco (research, writing, and editing—oh my!), and spent a lot of time in museums (as a student, for fun, and as an intern at the Portland Art Museum and the de Young Museum).

I was planning a career as a curator when a startup pulled me in a different direction. I joined an online interior design company as a design associate, but started an internal newsletter on the side to scratch my art history itch—stories about iconic designers, customer transformations, design history, the occasional (and tasteful!) furniture pun. An investor saw it and, suddenly, I was swept onto the marketing team and handed the keys to the brand's social media, blog, and email.

Over the next five and a half years, I got a hands-on crash course in every facet of marketing—building campaigns, writing copy, designing content, analyzing what worked, pivoting when it didn't. I went on to other bigger and badder marketing roles at other global brands, but I missed the scrappy startup life that demanded daily shapeshifting and being hands-on as much as I was strategic.

In 2024, I started freelancing out of necessity, but quickly realized I loved it—the variety, the autonomy, and especially the chance to work with founders building things they care deeply about. After a year of getting my sea legs, I've honed in on my sweet spot: small businesses, emerging brands, and mission-led organizations who need both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

And so MEWs Creative was born—a nod to the ancient Greek goddesses who presided over the arts and sciences, the force of inspiration that gives life to great art, my initials, and cats.
